Where it came from
Fire in His Fingertips 2: My Boyfriend is a Fireman, known in Japan as Yubisaki kara no Honki no Netsujō 2: Koibito wa Shōbōshi, was produced by Studio Hokiboshi and released in 2021 as a direct continuation of the 2019 anime series. Based on the manga by Tanishi Kawano, the series belongs to the long-running 'ComicFesta' anime project, a programming block specifically designed to adapt adult-oriented digital manga into short-form anime episodes. The production was intended to maintain the established format of concurrent broadcast versions, offering both a standard television edit and an explicit premium edition distributed via streaming platforms.
The creative direction for this sequel focused on deepening the established relationship between the protagonist, Ryo Fujihashi, and the firefighter Soma Mizuno. Directed by Toshihiro Watabe, the series adheres to the distinct visual and narrative conventions of the seinen romance genre, prioritizing short, intimate vignettes that emphasize the romantic dynamic over complex world-building. Upon its release, the series was received primarily by its niche existing audience, serving as a continuation of the popular original manga series that has seen significant success in the digital-first manga market.
