Amaterasu is the god of light, the future emperor of the Joker Star System. Under the guise of young mecha conceptor Ladios Sopp, he is compelled by an old friend, Dr Ballanche, to save his two latest Fatimas Lachesis and Clotho. And so began the stories of the Joker System, as well as Amaterasu's love for Lachesis.

Where it came from
The 1989 feature film adaptation of Mamoru Nagano's Five Star Stories stands as a landmark of late-eighties Japanese animation, produced by studio Sunrise. It was released during a period of experimentation for the studio, aiming to distill the dense, sprawling world-building of Nagano's manga into a standalone cinematic experience. The film focuses on the arrival of the legendary knight Liosane Sopp on the planet Addler, serving as an introduction to the intricate lore of the Joker Cluster.
Nagano's original design philosophy, characterized by his distinctive flair for mecha aesthetics—specifically the elegant, flowing lines of the Mortar Headd robots—translates the manga's high-fantasy sensibilities into a cinematic format. While the film was noted for its ambitious visual style and commitment to the source material's complex design language, it received a mixed critical reception at the time, with many viewers finding the abbreviated plot difficult to follow without prior knowledge of the extensive manga series.
