Where it came from
Flowering Heart is a South Korean animated television series produced by the studio EBS in collaboration with Bridge Touch Contents. The show debuted in 2016 as a project intended to capture the interest of young audiences through a blend of magical girl tropes and contemporary themes. Its narrative centers on four elementary school girls who find themselves tasked with collecting 'Hope Energy' by assisting characters in the human world, all while navigating the challenges of their own social and academic lives.
The character design and visual direction for the series reflect the aesthetic conventions of the Korean animation industry during the mid-2010s, emphasizing vibrant colors and stylized, emotive character expressions. The production was part of a broader push by EBS to expand its portfolio of original children's content, focusing on values like empathy and problem-solving. Upon its release, the show was well-received within its target demographic for its focus on cooperative problem-solving and its distinctive transition sequences.
