Where it came from
Food Wars! The Third Plate: Erina at Polar Star Dormitory is an original video animation released in 2018, produced by the studio J.C.STAFF as part of the broader franchise based on the manga series written by Yuto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki. This specific installment serves as a companion piece to the third season of the television anime adaptation, which follows the protagonist Soma Yukihira as he navigates the high-pressure environment of Totsuki Culinary Academy.
The animation focuses on the character Erina Nakiri and her temporary residence at the Polar Star Dormitory, providing a change of pace from the series' high-stakes competitive cooking battles. Directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani, the production maintains the studio's established visual style, prioritizing the signature culinary flair and dramatic character reactions that define the series. It was released to satisfy dedicated fans of the manga, offering a character-driven vignette that explores the daily lives of the students outside of the academy's formal curriculum.
