Where it came from
The Food Wars! The Second Plate OVA was produced in 2017 by J.C.Staff as a supplementary release to the second season of the popular anime series based on the manga by Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki. It was created to provide fans with additional narrative content that expanded upon the culinary competitions and character dynamics established in the main television broadcast, serving as a bonus feature typically bundled with special editions of the manga or home video releases.
Following the established visual style of the series, the animation maintains the vibrant, high-energy aesthetic characteristic of J.C.Staff's work on the franchise. The production aimed to capture the intense sensory descriptions of the food and the dramatic, hyperbolic reactions of the characters that define the show's identity. Upon release, it was well-received by the existing fanbase as a lighthearted, character-focused expansion that maintained the production quality of the primary television episodes.
