Fortune Quest: Yo ni mo Shiawase na Boukensha-tachi

Fortune Quest: Yo ni mo Shiawase na Boukensha-tachi was released in 1993 as a four-part original video animation series, based on the popular light novel franchise written by Mizuki Kukuchi. Produced by J.C.Staff, the adaptation sought to capture the lighthearted, tabletop role-playing game aesthetic that defined the source material. It served as a quintessential example of the early 1990s fantasy anime boom, characterized by a focus on character-driven adventure and comedic dungeon-crawling rather than purely serious high-fantasy narratives.

The character designs were intended to reflect the whimsical, colorful style of the original illustrations, emphasizing the vibrant personalities of the party members. The production aimed for a bright, approachable tone that would appeal to fans of the light novels, relying on traditional cel animation techniques standard for the era. While it was not a revolutionary entry in the genre, the series is remembered by collectors as a faithful and charming representation of 1990s anime light fantasy.
