A theatrical movie based on Fuji & gumi Games simulation role-playing smartphone and PC game, Ta ga Tame no Alchemist.
The game is centered on seven characters themed around the seven deadly sins, and is set on the continent of Babel, where the Tower of Babel looms large over seven nations. After the invention of alchemy led to its use as a tool of war that brought humanity to the brink of extinction, the seven nations struck an uneasy peace that led to a prohibition on alchemy for hundreds of years since. In the Continental Year 911, the nation of Lustrice broke the pact by assembling an army bolstered by alchemy, with ambitions of conquest over the continent. Led by Envylia, the six nations allied and struck down the rogue nation, casting alchemy once again to darkness. But 20 years after the war, alchemy once again begins to cause chaos in the land.

Where it came from
Released in 2019, For Whom The Alchemist Exists The Movie serves as an expansion of the narrative established by the popular Japanese mobile tactical role-playing game Tagatame no Alchemist. Produced by Satelight and directed by Masanori Takahashi, the film functions as a prequel, detailing the origins of the franchise's world-building and the history of its central characters. The production aimed to translate the game's complex strategic combat and lore into a cinematic format, bridging the gap for long-time players while introducing the high-fantasy setting to a wider audience through a self-contained story.
The film's visual design reflects the aesthetic established by the game, utilizing animation techniques common to Satelight's portfolio to maintain consistency with the source material's character designs. Upon its theatrical release in Japan, the project was received primarily as a companion piece for existing fans of the mobile title. It is noted for its contribution to the trend of mobile games being adapted into standalone anime features, highlighting the industrial practice of using film releases to sustain engagement within a multimedia franchise.
