Fox Spirits

Fox Spirits, produced by Geidai Animation, emerged from the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts animation program. This short film represents the intersection of traditional folklore motifs and the technical experimentation encouraged by the university's graduate animation department, which serves as a laboratory for burgeoning Japanese auteurs.

The film is defined by its evocative visual language and its exploration of the kitsune archetype within a contemporary narrative framework. It was crafted as a demonstration of the program’s focus on artistic autonomy, reflecting the idiosyncratic stylistic choices of its creators rather than commercial studio constraints. It was primarily received within the circuit of international animation festivals, where it garnered attention for its atmospheric depth and refined aesthetic execution.
