Furusato Meguri Nippon no Mukashibanashi

Furusato Meguri Nippon no Mukashibanashi was produced in 2017 by Studio Tomason as a specialized series dedicated to revitalizing traditional Japanese folklore for a modern audience. The project emerged from a cultural desire to preserve regional oral histories and moral tales, presenting these classic stories through a distinct, stylized animation aesthetic that emphasizes charm and accessibility. It serves as a digital anthology, grounding ephemeral oral traditions in a visual medium that remains faithful to the atmospheric quality of the original legends.

The series design reflects the studio's commitment to a balanced visual approach, blending minimalist animation techniques with rich, evocative storytelling. By focusing on the interplay between Japanese folklore and contemporary art, the creators aimed to make these historical narratives engaging for children and adults alike. While the production is not widely known outside of Japan, it has been noted for its thematic integrity and serves as a significant archival effort for Studio Tomason in keeping regional cultural motifs relevant in the twenty-first century.
