Futari Daka

Futari Daka, which translates to Two Hawks, was an anime television series produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and broadcast in 1984. Adapted from the long-running manga series by Kaoru Shintani, the story follows two young men with the same name, Takuya Sawada, who find themselves united by their shared passion for motorcycle racing. The series emerged during a period when motorsports were gaining significant cultural traction in Japan, reflecting the high-speed energy of the era's pop culture.

The series was directed by Seiji Okuda and utilized character designs that maintained the distinct aesthetic of Shintani’s original manga, known for its focus on mechanical detail and character dynamics. As a sports drama, it captured the intensity of the mid-80s racing scene, emphasizing themes of rivalry and camaraderie. While it did not achieve the international ubiquity of some of its contemporaries, it remains a notable example of 1980s sports anime that effectively translated the technical nuances of motorcycle racing to the screen.
