Where it came from
Futari no Ouji-sama is an original video animation released in 2006 as a direct continuation of the Prince of Tennis anime franchise. It was produced by M.S.C and Trans Arts, serving as a special project to bridge the narrative gap between the conclusion of the television series and the subsequent national tournament OVA series. The production was aimed at long-time viewers, utilizing the established character dynamics of Ryoma Echizen and the Seishun Academy tennis team to explore themes of friendly competition during a training camp setting in Okinawa.
The character designs remained faithful to Takeshi Konomi’s original manga aesthetic, ensuring consistency with the popular TV run. The animation style was intended to capture the high-energy, sports-fantasy tone that defined the series, focusing on exaggerated tennis techniques and character banter. Upon its release, it was well-received by the existing fanbase as a lighthearted, self-contained story that maintained the spirit of the original televised episodes while showcasing the technical improvements often seen in high-budget OVA releases of the mid-2000s.
