Where it came from
Fuwa Aoyun Manyou Ji, translated as Fuwa's Olympic Adventures, is a 2008 Chinese animated television series produced to promote the Beijing Summer Olympic Games. The series features the five official mascots of the games—Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini—as they embark on educational journeys to introduce viewers to the history of the Olympics, the culture of the host nation, and the spirit of sportsmanship.
The character designs were overseen by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, building upon the original mascots designed by artist Han Meilin. The visual style reflects the vibrant, approachable aesthetic typical of early 2000s Chinese children's programming. While intended to foster excitement among younger audiences leading up to the Games, the series is now primarily regarded as a piece of commemorative cultural ephemera that encapsulates the massive promotional effort surrounding the 2008 event.
