In a distant future there is an organization called Deava which had to fight against the so called "Shadow Angels", creatures that had survived for over 12,000 years whose only purpose was to destroy humanity. Apollo, a seemingly normal human, was in fact the reincarnation of a fallen Angel called Apollonius, who in turn had to fight against Touma, a Shadow Angel, along with his comrades in order to prevent the destruction of the Earth.

Where it came from
Released in 2007, the Genesis of Aquarion OVA serves as a supplementary chapter to the 2005 television series produced by Satelight. Created in the wake of the show's success, the OVA was designed to revisit the series' unique mythology and blend of mecha action with spiritual reincarnation themes. It functions primarily as a bridge, offering fans additional narrative depth regarding the characters' past lives and the ancient conflict at the heart of the franchise.
The animation and character design maintain the distinctive aesthetic established by director Shoji Kawamori. Kawamori, known for his work on the Macross franchise, utilized the OVA format to push the visual boundaries of the series' transformational combat sequences. Upon release, the project was received as a stylistic companion piece, appreciated by the fanbase for its technical polish and for providing context that enriched the emotional stakes of the original twenty-six-episode run.
