Ghost Stories SP

Ghost Stories SP was released in 2005 as a special original video animation (OVA) following the conclusion of the 2000 television series, Gakkou no Kaidan. Produced by WAO World, the project emerged during a period of shifting interests in the horror-comedy genre. While the original series is globally recognized today for its unconventional and irreverent English dub—which significantly departed from the original Japanese script—this special installment aimed to bridge the gap for fans interested in the production’s more traditional roots.

The animation reflects the aesthetic standards of mid-2000s television anime, utilizing a straightforward cel-influenced digital style that prioritized character consistency over complex movement. The character designs remain faithful to the original works by Toru Fujisawa and the source material's supernatural themes. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a niche curiosity for dedicated followers of the franchise, serving as a rare piece of supplemental material that maintained the established tone of the series without the radical tonal shifts seen in its international broadcast versions.
