Ginga Tetsudou 999: Jikuu wo Koeta Energy no Tabi season.2

Released in 2011, this ONA series serves as a modern iteration of Leiji Matsumoto’s seminal science fiction franchise, Galaxy Express 999. It was produced by Toei Animation as a promotional project, specifically designed to demonstrate the efficiency and capabilities of the Panasonic 'Eco Navi' energy-saving technology in a household setting. The project leverages the iconic imagery of the Galaxy Express 999 train to bridge the nostalgic appeal of the original 1970s series with contemporary corporate messaging regarding environmental sustainability.

The production maintains the aesthetic spirit of the original anime while updating the animation techniques for a digital audience. By featuring the classic protagonists, Tetsuro and Maetel, the series seeks to engage long-time fans while utilizing the train's journey as a metaphor for traveling toward a more energy-conscious future. It was received as a brief but interesting curio, highlighting how classic intellectual properties are frequently repurposed for public service and educational campaigns in the Japanese corporate landscape.
