Where it came from
Go! Go! Ackman originated as a manga series created by Akira Toriyama, serialized in V Jump starting in 1993. Following the success of the source material, Toei Animation produced this original video animation (OVA) in 1994. The narrative centers on a young demon named Ackman who is tasked by the Great Demon King with collecting souls for the underworld, resulting in a dark yet comedic tone that aligns with Toriyama's signature penchant for blending supernatural elements with lighthearted slapstick humor.
The character design reflects Toriyama's distinctive aesthetic, characterized by rounded, expressive features and clean linework that was highly recognizable due to his concurrent work on Dragon Ball. The OVA was produced during a period when Toei frequently adapted various V Jump properties to capitalize on the popularity of Toriyama’s style. Upon its release, the project was noted for its brief, fast-paced storytelling and its commitment to the manga’s specific visual language, remaining a niche cult curiosity rather than a mainstream breakout.
