Gokicha!! Cockroach Girl

Gokicha!! Cockroach Girl originated as a four-panel manga series by artist Rui Tamachi, first published in 2010. The story centers on a young, anthropomorphized cockroach girl named Gokicha who dreams of living harmoniously with humans in Tokyo, despite her species' reputation as a household pest. The narrative is defined by a blend of comedy and bittersweet irony, as the protagonist consistently encounters rejection and fear while attempting to navigate urban life with earnest, naive optimism.

The 2012 ONA adaptation was produced by the studio Movic to bring Tamachi's unique character design to a short-form animated format. The production aimed to lean into the contrast between the character's cute, chibi-inspired aesthetic and the grim reality of her social standing as a cockroach. Upon its release, the project was noted for its experimental brevity and its unconventional premise, finding a niche audience within the broader landscape of late-night comedic anime shorts.
