Haikyuu!!: VS Chiisana Kyojin

Haikyuu!!: VS Chiisana Kyojin serves as the first installment of the two-part Haikyuu!! Final film project, officially titled Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle in Western territories. Produced by Production I.G, the film was conceived to adapt the highly anticipated Karasuno versus Nekoma high school volleyball match, a narrative arc long awaited by fans of Haruichi Furudate’s original manga series. The production team aimed to capture the kinetic, high-stakes intensity of the sport through fluid animation and dynamic camera work that mirrors the series' reputation for detailed athletic choreography.

The project was directed by Susumu Mitsunaka, who returned to the franchise to ensure the cinematic adaptation maintained the emotional resonance and technical precision established in the television series. Upon its release, the film was received with significant critical and commercial success, praised for its ability to condense a complex arc into a cohesive theatrical experience while remaining faithful to the character-driven storytelling that defined the source material. It reflects the broader transition of modern sports anime into high-production theatrical events.
