Hana no Ko Lunlun: Konnichiwa Sakura no Sono

Hana no Ko Lunlun: Konnichiwa Sakura no Sono was released in 1980 as part of the Toei Manga Matsuri film festival, following the conclusion of the popular mahou shoujo television series. Directed by Hiroshi Shidara, the film served as a cinematic epilogue to the story of Lunlun Flower, a girl tasked with searching for the Rainbow Flower to save the Kingdom of Flower. The production sought to capitalize on the series' established success by offering a condensed, visually vibrant narrative that distilled the themes of friendship and botanical magic central to the original work.

The character designs, originally developed by Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno, were adapted for the big screen to retain the series' signature shoujo aesthetic. The film was conceived during a period when Toei Animation was actively expanding its library of magical girl content for theatrical distribution. While not as widely referenced as the television series, the film remains a notable entry in the studio's early 1980s catalog, representing a specific effort to bring television animation characters into a more immersive, seasonal event format for Japanese audiences.
