Hana no Zundamaru

Hana no Zundamaru is a short-form original net animation produced by the studio Wao World and released in 2005. It was created as an adaptation of the manga series by Yumi Tada, which appeared in the magazine Monthly Comic Bunch. The narrative follows a young ninja who attempts to integrate into modern society with comedic results, reflecting the lighthearted and surreal sensibilities prevalent in mid-2000s Japanese web-distributed animation.

The production utilized a minimalist, highly stylized aesthetic that was common for early digital-first anime series designed for quick consumption. By leaning into absurdity and slapstick, the design choices aimed to differentiate the work from mainstream television animation of the time. While the series remains a niche entry in the history of ONA formats, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of early internet-era animation for its distinct visual identity and its role in the evolution of direct-to-web distribution models.
