After losing his mother, 12-year-old Taro journeys to Tokyo to live with his grandfather. But he gets the biggest surprise when he discovers that his grandfather's home is a huge mansion with hundreds of beautiful maids ready to serve him. Making matters worse (at least for Taro, but not for our viewing) is that not only does he inherit the Hanaukyo mansion, he gets the services of all of the maids 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Where it came from
Hanaukyou Maid-tai originated as a manga series by Morishige, which began serialization in 2001 before being adapted into an anime television series by Studio Daume that same year. The premise centers on a young boy who discovers he is the heir to a massive estate and is promptly served by a small army of maids. This title emerged during a peak era for the harem and comedy subgenres in anime, capitalizing on the popularity of elaborate domestic fantasy settings.
The character designs and animation style produced by Studio Daume reflect the aesthetic trends of the early 2000s, prioritizing a lighthearted, whimsical visual tone to match the series' comedic nature. While the original 2001 adaptation was a brief venture, the franchise later saw a more extensive television remake in 2004. The work is generally remembered as a representative entry in the maid-themed media boom that characterized early-2000s otaku culture.
