HAPPY☆LESSON: ADVANCE

Happy Lesson: Advance was produced in 2003 by Studio KSS as a direct follow-up to the original 2002 anime adaptation of the manga series by Mutsumi Sasaki. The series emerged during a period of high popularity for the harem genre, continuing the narrative of Chitose Hitotose, an orphaned high school student who finds his life disrupted when five of his teachers move into his home to act as his guardians. Produced as a 12-episode television series, it sought to capitalize on the character-driven comedy and romantic tropes established in the first season.

The character designs for the animation were handled by Hirokazu Hisayuki, who aimed to maintain the soft, idealized aesthetic characteristic of early 2000s light novel and manga adaptations. The series was designed to provide a lighthearted, episodic experience for viewers of the time, focusing on the comedic friction between the protagonists and their various personal quirks. While the franchise reached a dedicated niche audience through its manga, radio dramas, and anime iterations, the television series generally received modest critical attention, being remembered today primarily as a representative example of the transitional era for harem-style anime.
