Hiroko Matsukata is a woman who works for a magazine company. She puts all she has into her work, and is known as a strong, straight-forward working girl, who can at will turn herself into Hataraki man (working man) mode. Despite Hiroko's success at work, her life lacks romance. Even though a hard worker, she'd leave early anytime to go on a date. Too bad her boyfriend is even bigger a workaholic than Hiroko.

Where it came from
Hataraki Man was produced by Studio Gallop in 2006, based on the popular manga series by Moyoco Anno. The series serves as a sharp, character-driven examination of the Japanese workplace, centering on Hiroko Matsukata, a magazine editor who balances a high-pressure career with personal relationships. Its creation captured the zeitgeist of mid-2000s urban working life in Tokyo, reflecting the intense dedication often referred to in Japan as the 'working man' spirit.
The animation and character design for the series were crafted to translate Anno's distinct, expressive art style into motion, focusing on the frantic energy of the editorial office. The series was well-received for its realistic and often humorous portrayal of professional struggles and the sacrifices made to excel in a demanding career. It remains noted for its empathetic look at the gender dynamics and long hours inherent in Japanese corporate culture.
