Saito High is a high school with its spiritual beings and a principal whose hobby is collecting occult paraphernalia. The school has the prophecy-chosen members of the Holy Student Council to protect it. These students have problems of their own; Haruto Houjo, the president, has a way of summoning spirits, and would resign from his duty for a normal life if it weren't for the principal. Kazumi Ryodo, the next member, is good at being possessed and has something for the Hanako. The last member is Mutsuki Asahina, who is a master of exorcism and is attracted to small boys. Unfortunately, these three are in charge of keeping the school in line and defending the world from supernatural beings, and this mission brings them through wacky predicaments.

Where it came from
Haunted Junction, released in 1997 by Studio DEEN, is an anime television series based on the manga by Nemu Toryu. It emerged during a period in the late 1990s when supernatural-themed comedies were gaining traction in the medium. The story follows a high school student who possesses the ability to see ghosts, thrusting her into a series of comedic encounters with the spectral residents of her town. The series is notable for its blend of lighthearted humor and episodic horror tropes, reflecting the playful, genre-bending sensibilities prevalent in late 90s animation studios.
The character designs and visual direction were crafted to emphasize the contrast between the mundane high school environment and the eclectic, often bizarre manifestations of the spirit world. Studio DEEN utilized the series to experiment with the balance between slapstick humor and character-driven supernatural mystery. Upon its release, the show was received as a niche entry in the comedy-horror genre, appreciated by audiences for its quirky premise and its dedication to the specific visual aesthetic of 1990s Japanese animation.
