Where it came from
Heroines Run the Show, known in Japan as Heroine Tarumono! Kiraware Heroine to Naisho no Oshigoto, was produced by the studio Lay-duce and premiered in 2022. The series is based on a song project by the vocaloid creative unit HoneyWorks, specifically inspired by their track 'Heroine Tarumono!'. It follows the story of a high school girl who takes a part-time job as an assistant manager for a popular idol duo, navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry while balancing her own aspirations and school life.
The series was directed by Noriko Hashimoto, who aimed to capture the energetic and emotional aesthetic typical of HoneyWorks' music videos and multimedia projects. The character designs were adapted by Kaori Ishii, focusing on a vibrant, approachable visual style consistent with the brand's established identity. Upon release, it was received as a lighthearted coming-of-age story that appealed primarily to fans of the HoneyWorks discography, offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on the idol culture that the creative group had been exploring for years.
