Where it came from
Released in 2009 by the studio PrimeTime, Hey, Class President! is an original video animation (OVA) adaptation of the boys' love manga series by Ako Shimaki. The production emerged during a period of significant growth for the boys' love genre in the direct-to-video market, aiming to translate the stylized character dynamics and melodramatic narrative arcs characteristic of its source material for an established fan base of the printed manga.
The character designs and animation direction were handled by the creative team at PrimeTime, who sought to retain the aesthetic sensibilities of the original manga illustrations while adapting them for movement. Upon its release, the project was received primarily as a niche title, catering specifically to fans of the manga who were interested in seeing the interaction between the lead characters, Kokusai and Itusmi, animated in a faithful, if compact, format.
