Where it came from
High School Jingi was produced by J.C.Staff and released as a two-episode original video animation in 1992. Emerging during the height of the early 1990s boom in direct-to-video anime, the project was adapted from a manga series by Ryosuke Murao. It fits squarely into the era's fascination with youth-oriented delinquency dramas, blending high-stakes school rivalries with the aesthetic sensibilities prevalent in the studio's early catalog.
The production sought to capture the grit and stylized intensity of its source material, utilizing the darker, atmospheric animation style common to mid-90s OVA efforts. While it remains a niche entry in the J.C.Staff archives, the series serves as a notable example of the studio's developmental period, reflecting their efforts to translate episodic manga narratives into the shorter, more condensed format of the OVA market.
