Where it came from
Harmony Greets the New Year was produced by miHoYo Anime as a celebratory short film to mark the 2024 Lunar New Year. Released within the context of the Honkai: Star Rail universe, the animation serves as an evocative piece of promotional media designed to bridge the gap between the game’s cosmic, science-fantasy narrative and the traditional festivities of the season, grounding the game's ethereal characters in a familiar cultural context.
The animation reflects the high production standards of miHoYo’s internal studio, characterized by a vibrant, fluid aesthetic that emphasizes character interplay over combat. It was received as a lighthearted expansion of the game’s lore, praised by the community for its high-quality rendering and the charm of seeing the 'Astral Express' crew participating in regional traditions, which helped deepen fan engagement during the holiday period.
