Where it came from
Released in 2009, Hoshi ni Negai wo: COLD BODY + WARM HEART was produced by the Asahi Broadcasting Corporation as an original net animation (ONA) project. It emerged during a period when Japanese networks were increasingly experimenting with digital distribution platforms to reach younger audiences, serving as a standalone short intended to explore themes of identity and human connection through a science-fiction lens.
The production utilized a distinct visual style characteristic of late 2000s web-distributed animation, prioritizing emotional resonance over complex action sequences. As a lower-profile experimental title, it was developed as a niche showcase for the studio's technical capabilities, receiving modest attention from enthusiasts of domestic independent animation and web-streamed content at the time of its debut.
