Where it came from
Hoshi no Umi no Amuri, known in English as Amuri in Star Ocean, was produced by Bandai Visual and released as an original video animation in 2008. The project was conceived as a lighthearted, space-faring adventure that captures the spirit of early 2000s anime character design, focusing on the whimsical journey of its titular protagonist, Amuri, and her pilot companion as they navigate the complexities of life in a futuristic, interstellar setting.
The production sought to blend traditional character-driven storytelling with clean, vibrant aesthetics typical of the era's mid-budget animation efforts. Designed with a distinct emphasis on charm and personality, the OVA was intended to be an accessible, episodic experience. While it remains a niche entry in the science fiction genre, it is appreciated by collectors for its polished visual style and its status as a self-contained, lighthearted project from an era when standalone original video animations were transitioning toward new digital distribution models.
