A kindly teacher demonstrates origami to his elementary class, but when he gives a paper crane to a child, it is stolen from him by Takeshi, the class bully. Takeshi discovers that the crane is really a talking spaceship that takes him and his friends to visit a fairground in the stars.
A girl falls through a hole into Space Hell, and the children cooperate to rescue her. Takeshi wakes up, wondering if it was all a dream. The next day, he returns the magic crane to its rightful owner. This tale is from Rainbow Across the Pacific's Daisuke Ikeda, the leader of the buddhist Soka Gakkai organization which is commonly considered a cult as it is a part of the shinshuukyou religious movement.

Where it came from
Hoshi no Yuuenchi, often translated as Starlight Amusement Park, is a standalone OVA released in the mid-1980s as part of the broader Hello Kitty animation catalog. During this era, Sanrio was actively expanding its intellectual properties into the home video market to strengthen the brand's presence in Japanese households, utilizing these short-form animations to build character lore beyond simple merchandise designs.
The production reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of Sanrio’s mid-80s animation division, which prioritized soft, pastel-toned backgrounds and simple, emotive character movements intended for a preschool and early elementary demographic. While the animation style is functional and lacks the experimental techniques seen in contemporary high-budget anime, it was well-received by its target audience for maintaining the gentle, whimsical spirit of the Hello Kitty brand, serving as a foundational piece in the character's transition from stationery icon to multimedia mascot.
