Where it came from
Houkago 2: Sayuri was released in 2008 as a direct-to-video production by the studio Himajin Planning. It belongs to the broader category of adult-oriented OVA releases that characterized the studio's output during the mid-to-late 2000s, focusing on concise, character-driven narratives within the independent animation circuit of that era.
The production reflects the stylistic norms of boutique animation studios at the time, prioritizing specific visual archetypes typical of the niche adult anime genre. While the title is relatively obscure, it serves as an example of the localized, small-scale studio system in Japan, where production design was often streamlined to meet the specific demands of a dedicated subscriber base rather than a general television audience.
