The main character, Chu Mu, was the heir to the Chu Clan, but he was banished to the island and faced an almost certain death as a result of a planned assassination. He danced on the brink of death, fighting for his life with a little Moonlight Fox he had captured. He had to exhale when he was finally free of the demonic foremen on his island. However, he was unaware that this was just the start of his destined trip with his tiny Moonlight Fox.

Where it came from
Huan Chong Shi, known in English as The Illusionist, is a representative work within the landscape of modern Chinese original net animation (ONA). Produced as an independent digital production, it emerged during a period of rapid expansion for the Chinese animation industry, which saw creators leveraging internet distribution platforms to bypass traditional television gatekeepers and explore experimental storytelling techniques.
The animation is noted for its distinct visual identity, which prioritizes atmospheric tension and stylistic minimalism over elaborate character detail. The creative team aimed to explore themes of psychological perception and existential ambiguity, utilizing a color palette and frame pacing that distinguish it from the more commercialized, high-octane action series prevalent in the contemporary domestic market. Its reception has been largely confined to niche animation enthusiast circles, where it is often discussed for its departure from mainstream aesthetic tropes.
