Hyperventilation

Hyperventilation is a renowned South Korean webtoon and animated series created by the artist Bbong. The story originated as a webtoon serial before being adapted into a short, atmospheric animated film that gained significant traction within the BL (Boys' Love) community for its distinct aesthetic and emotional depth. It was crafted during a period of burgeoning interest in independent digital animation, allowing creators to bypass traditional television production constraints to reach a global online audience directly.

The animation is characterized by a minimalist, moody art style that emphasizes color palettes and light to evoke intimacy and tension between the lead characters, Myeong and Han. Bbong focused on conveying complex character dynamics through subtle movements and lingering visual focus rather than dialogue-heavy exposition. Upon its release, the work was well-received by fans for its polished production quality, which elevated it above many amateur projects of the time and solidified its status as a staple in contemporary independent queer animation.
