Where it came from
I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too originated as a light novel series written by Miku and illustrated by Rein Kuwashima. It belongs to the popular isekai fantasy subgenre, which explores characters transitioning between mundane reality and magical alternate dimensions. The narrative focuses on the protagonist, Yuya Tenjo, who discovers a portal that grants him access to supernatural abilities, ultimately altering his trajectory in his original, difficult life.
The 2023 television adaptation was produced by studio Millepensee and directed by Shin Itagaki. The production aimed to emphasize the visual contrast between the bleak, grounded reality of the protagonist’s home life and the vibrant, high-fantasy aesthetic of the 'Other World.' Upon its release, the series became a notable example of current trends in light novel adaptations, drawing attention for its premise of power-fantasy fulfillment while receiving varied critical feedback regarding its pacing and animation style.
