Where it came from
I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class, produced by Studio CONNECT, is a 2026 television anime adaptation based on the popular light novel series. The production emerged from a contemporary trend in Japanese animation that favors nuanced character-driven dramas over traditional high-stakes action. By focusing on the evolving friendship between two classmates navigating social hierarchies, the series seeks to explore the complexities of adolescent identity and the pressures of school reputation.
The visual direction and character designs prioritize a grounded, slice-of-life aesthetic, aiming to translate the intimate tone of the source material into a fluid, expressive format. While the series follows the well-established beats of the school-romance genre, Studio CONNECT has been noted for its emphasis on atmospheric lighting and subtle animation, a stylistic choice intended to draw viewers deeper into the internal emotional landscape of the protagonists.
