ICE

The 2007 OVA ICE was produced by the studio PPM as part of a multimedia project that aimed to blend anime aesthetics with a unique, futuristic narrative. Released during a period when independent and experimental studio projects were gaining traction in the Japanese animation market, the production sought to explore atmospheric storytelling through a distinct visual lens. The project is often noted for its departure from mainstream tropes, prioritizing a specific stylistic tone that characterizes the mid-2000s experimental OVA scene.

The design and direction of ICE reflect the creative ambitions of the team at PPM to create a self-contained world. The aesthetic choices lean into a minimalist, cold, and often stylized interpretation of a post-apocalyptic or dystopian setting, which was intended to evoke a sense of isolation. While the project received a niche reception, it remains a point of interest for collectors focusing on the specific output of boutique studios from that era who were experimenting with short-form storytelling.
