Where it came from
Ichiban Chikakute Tooi Hoshi, or The Closest and Furthest Star, is a short animation produced by FLAT STUDIO and released in 2021. The project was created as a promotional collaboration for the music video of the song of the same name by the artist Yorushika. It fits within the studio's broader mission to merge contemporary Japanese youth culture with refined, evocative animation styles, often focusing on themes of ephemeral adolescence and urban solitude.
The production features the distinct, atmospheric aesthetic associated with FLAT STUDIO, which was founded by director loundraw. The design emphasizes a muted, melancholic color palette and soft lighting to mirror the lyrical content of the song. Upon its release, the project was well-received by fans of both the studio's cinematic, painterly approach and the growing audience for Yorushika's narrative-driven music videos, solidifying its place as a notable example of the modern integration between J-pop and independent animation.
