In the midst of the frenzy night a man finds himself lost in the crevasse of time.
It was not the grotesque beings nor the monsters, but it was he who "was here, but wasn't here".
He was the phantom.
Buried under memories full of inhibition and promises that never kept - words washed up on the shore - time keeps him at a distance from the "place" .
And he hears poems coming on the waves from the other side ryhming and lapping against the shore.

Where it came from
Iizuna Fair is a notable entry within the experimental Japanese independent animation scene, emerging from a creative period that sought to blend traditional folklore with avant-garde digital techniques. The film was produced during a time when creators were increasingly turning to non-linear narrative structures to explore regional mythology, specifically focusing on the legends of the Iizuna—supernatural fox spirits—as a lens for examining human isolation and ecological shifts.
The visual language of the project was developed to emphasize texture and atmospheric depth over conventional cel animation, favoring a muted, evocative palette that reflects the mist-covered landscapes of the mountainous regions from which the lore originates. Upon its release, it was primarily received within art-house circuits and niche animation festivals, where it garnered praise for its stylistic boldness and its refusal to adhere to mainstream structural tropes, solidifying its place as a cult piece of regional animation history.
