Iketeru Futari

Iketeru Futari, released in 1999, is a comedic anime adaptation of the manga series by Takeshi Sesuna. Produced by the studio J.C.Staff, the series belongs to the late-nineties wave of niche late-night anime that leaned heavily into raunchy, character-driven humor. It depicts the awkward and often frustrating romantic development between two high school students, aiming to capture the chaotic nature of teenage adolescence through a cynical, slapstick lens.

The character designs were crafted to translate Sesuna's distinct manga style into an animated format, emphasizing expressive and often exaggerated facial reactions to accentuate the comedic timing. While the series maintains a dedicated following among fans of 90s cult-classic comedy, its reception at the time was largely defined by its limited target audience and its straightforward approach to the 'ecchi' genre tropes prevalent during that era of television production.
