Inazuma Eleven GO: Chrono Stone

Inazuma Eleven GO: Chrono Stone was produced by the animation studio OLM and debuted in 2012 as the second installment in the Inazuma Eleven GO series. Picking up after the events of the Holy Road tournament, the narrative shifts toward a science-fiction-infused premise involving time travel and the protection of soccer's history. It was conceptualized to revitalize the franchise by incorporating the 'Miximax' mechanic, which allowed characters to merge their abilities with historical figures or mythical entities, a design choice intended to deepen the strategic layers of the show’s signature supernatural soccer matches.

The series was part of a multimedia strategy by Level-5, integrating the television broadcast closely with handheld video games to maintain high engagement among its younger demographic. While the shift toward more complex, time-bending plotlines was a significant departure from the grounded sports drama of the original series, it was received as a bold expansion of the brand. Character designs continued the distinctive, angular aesthetic established by the franchise’s earlier entries, ensuring continuity in visual branding while providing a fresh backdrop of historical eras for the protagonists to traverse.
