Where it came from
Released in 2002, InuYasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass serves as the second feature film entry in the expansive franchise created by Rumiko Takahashi. Produced by the studio Sunrise, the film departs from the primary television series timeline to follow Inuyasha and his companions as they confront a new antagonist, Kaguya, who seeks to consume the world in eternal night. This entry is particularly noted by fans for its integration of the romantic dynamic between Inuyasha and Kagome, which remains a central pillar of the narrative.
The animation direction was led by the team at Sunrise, building upon the established aesthetic defined by the long-running television adaptation. The production aimed to provide a cinematic scale to the series' supernatural conflict, utilizing the medium of film to offer more elaborate action sequences and a more atmospheric visual tone than the standard broadcast episodes. Upon its release, it was received as a satisfying expansion of the series lore, effectively bridging the gap between major story arcs for its dedicated viewership.
