Where it came from
Released in 2001, InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time served as the first feature-length cinematic expansion of Rumiko Takahashi’s popular manga series. Produced by Sunrise and directed by Toshiya Shinohara, the film was designed to bridge the gap between the television series' narrative arcs, offering a standalone story that focused on the growing emotional connection between Kagome and InuYasha while introducing Menomaru, a moth demon seeking to reclaim his father's power.
The production utilized the aesthetic foundations established by the TV series, maintaining a balance between feudal Japanese folklore and the action-oriented pacing typical of Shonen anime at the time. Upon its release, it was received as a successful transition of the franchise to the big screen, praised by fans for its original soundtrack and for deepening the character dynamics that had defined the show’s success in its early seasons.
