Where it came from
Ippatsu Hicchuu!! Devander was produced by Tatsunoko Production in 2012 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the legendary animation studio. Created as a modern homage to the classic sentai and giant robot genres that defined the company's output in the 1970s, the OVA reflects the studio's desire to bridge their storied heritage with contemporary digital animation techniques.
The project was helmed by director Hiroshi Sasagawa, a veteran associated with many of the studio's most iconic works. The design philosophy centered on vibrant, exaggerated aesthetics intended to evoke nostalgia for shows like Time Bokan, while simultaneously experimenting with high-energy pacing. It was received primarily as a niche celebratory piece for long-time fans of the Tatsunoko style rather than a mainstream reboot.
