Where it came from
I Parry Everything originated as a light novel series written by Nabeshima Takeichi and illustrated by Kawaguchi Bun. The story follows a protagonist who lacks traditional talent but develops an extraordinary ability to parry, allowing him to survive in a world of high-fantasy threats. It was adapted into an anime television series in 2024 by OLM, a studio well-regarded for its long-running work on franchises like Pokémon.
The production sought to balance the comedic, underdog nature of the source material with the visual kineticism required for fantasy action sequences. OLM utilized its expertise in character-driven narratives to frame the protagonist's repetitive yet hyper-effective parrying mechanic as both a source of humor and a tactical mystery. Upon its release, the series was received as a lighthearted contribution to the 'isekai' and fantasy adventure genres, drawing attention for its protagonist’s unconventional progression path.
