Where it came from
Issho ni Training: Training with Hinako was released in 2009 by Studio Hibari as an interactive exercise DVD designed to encourage viewers to participate in physical fitness routines alongside an animated character. The project emerged during a period of experimentation in Japan with media that bridged the gap between traditional anime and instructional home fitness videos, aiming to make routine workouts more engaging through the use of established character tropes and voice acting.
The character of Hinako was designed to embody a friendly, supportive persona, with the animation focusing on fluid movement to ensure the exercises were easy to follow. Upon its release, the work received significant attention for its unconventional blend of otaku culture and health-oriented content. It eventually served as the foundation for a small franchise that included subsequent releases focused on different exercises, marking it as a distinct, if niche, entry in the history of experimental interactive anime.
