Where it came from
Jakusansei Million Arthur was produced by the animation studio Gathering and released as a short-form original net animation (ONA) series in 2015. It serves as a comedic spin-off adaptation of the popular mobile card battle game Million Arthur, originally developed by Square Enix. The series was designed to lean heavily into surreal humor and meta-commentary, intentionally contrasting the epic fantasy tone of the original game with a frantic, low-fidelity aesthetic that mirrored the art style of the accompanying four-panel manga.
The production sought to capitalize on the cult following of the web manga written and illustrated by Choboraunyopomi. By focusing on rapid-fire gags and the self-deprecating nature of the franchise's mascots, the series aimed to provide a lighter, more approachable entry point for fans of the card game. The project received a generally positive reception from the existing player base, who appreciated the animation's ability to capture the chaotic energy and specific visual shorthand established in the source material.
