Where it came from
Janggeumiui kkum 2, or The Dream of Jang Geum 2, was produced by Heewon Entertainment and released in 2007 as the follow-up to the successful first season, which was based on the acclaimed historical drama Dae Jang Geum. The series was designed to translate the cultural and culinary themes of the original live-action epic into an accessible animated format for younger audiences, focusing on the protagonist's journey through the royal palace kitchens during the Joseon Dynasty.
The animation style aimed for a clean, bright aesthetic typical of mid-2000s Korean television, prioritizing expressive character designs that balanced historical costume accuracy with a modern, approachable appeal. While the series was developed to capitalize on the immense popularity of the original Dae Jang Geum franchise, it was received as a charming standalone work that successfully integrated elements of education and drama, further cementing the franchise's reach within East Asian media markets.
