Thor and his twin brother, Rai, are cast off to a forsaken planet by unknown masked men after witnessing the suspicious death of their parents. Given only a beam knife and a smelly satchel, they wander together in search of civilization on the primarily plant based world. They soon discover the plants have the advantage. Only the strong survive; the ones who throw away their humanity and become the beasts humans once were.

Where it came from
Jyu-Oh-Sei: Planet of the Beast King was produced by Studio Bones in 2006, adapting the original manga series by Natsumi Itsuki. The anime was created to fit into the Noitamina programming block on Fuji TV, which sought to bring more diverse, mature, and experimental manga adaptations to a wider demographic beyond traditional late-night audiences. The narrative follows twin brothers abandoned on a treacherous, hostile planet, forcing them to survive in a brutal environment governed by a rigid tribal hierarchy.
The series is noted for its distinct visual style, which captures the lush, dangerous flora of the setting and the stark societal desperation of its inhabitants. Bones approached the adaptation with a focus on high-tension pacing and dramatic character evolution, condensing the original manga's complex world-building into an eleven-episode run. Upon release, it was recognized for its unique premise and its departure from typical shonen tropes, though it remains a niche entry in the studio's extensive catalog.
