Where it came from
K: SEVEN STORIES is a multi-part film project released in 2018, produced by the animation studio GoHands. The 'Lost Small World' entry serves as a narrative adaptation of the spin-off novel by Yukako Kabei, which delves into the early friendship between the characters Misaki Yata and Saruhiko Fushimi. The project was conceived as an expansion of the K anime universe, aiming to provide deeper psychological context for the motivations of characters whose bond is central to the series' conflict.
The visual direction, led by GoHands, retains the studio's signature high-contrast aesthetic and complex camera work, which defines the series' distinctive look. By adapting the source material into a film format, the studio sought to capture the nuanced transition of the protagonists from middle school students to members of opposing rival factions. Upon release, the film was received as an essential character study by the existing fan base, appreciated for its focus on the intimate, often strained emotional dynamics that predate the series' main events.
